17.45% increase in Conversion Rate from Search Optimisation

When analysing Google Analytics 4, data, we noted that one of our clients had higher levels of sessions on mobile than on desktop. Our hypothesis was that exposing the search bar on mobile would make the shopping experience easier and increase overall metrics. We conducted an A/B test with this client, which saw a 16.86% increase in viewing search results, 17.45% increase in conversion rate, 33% increase in clicks on the cart icon, and 9% increase in clicks on add to bag.

 

 

Based on these results, we conducted similar A/B tests with two more clients, all resulting in similar results.

88% increase in Conversion Rate from Exposing the Search Bar

When analysing our client’s site through heatmap analysis and screen recording, we noted high activity levels on the search bar and found more sessions on mobile than on desktop. We conducted the same test for this client by exposing the search bar on mobile in the hopes that it would increase overall revenue-attributed metrics.

We noted that search trigger clicks increased by 126%, conversion rates increased by 88%, average order values increased by 14%, and average purchase revenue per user increased by 109%.

 

45% increase in Average Order Value for Returning Customers

This client is the sister site to the previous one and also had high levels of engagement on their search bar. Based on the increase in metrics of their sister site, we took the opportunity to utilise this engagement to drive conversion rates by exposing the search bar on mobile. For this site, we noted a 45% increase in average order value, a 35% increase in average purchase revenue per user, and a 46% increase in revenue.
